Letter to my 12-year old Self

Thursday, September 27, 2012

I have been hooked to watching How I Met Your Mother and one particular episode that caught my attention was when Marshall wrote a letter to his younger self. Which inspired me to write to my 12 year old self. Can't imagine that it has been 20 years already.

Dear 12 year old me,

By now, you're probably excited about graduating in grade school and thinking about where to go for high school. Don't worry, mom will take care of that. But sorry to burst your bubble, high school isn't gonna be as fun-filled as you thought. You'll meet pretty amazing people and those that will inspire you through life but of course there are those that will make your life a living hell. You'll also accomplish one of your life long dream of becoming a CAT officer, it's not gonna be an easy road but you'll survive. You will graduate on time, not pregnant and still living a normal teenaged life, I assure you that.

Now college is gonna be different. You'll decide to be not like anyone else as you'll have your own identity. Survival here is not gonna be as tough not like high school. You'll meet friends who will stand by you till you're older. Trust me, They're for keeps. Treasure each and every experiences during college as this will definitely mould you into someone like me. Though you won't be partying as much as the other kids your age, college will give you more freedom than high school.

After college, this is where the fun starts but if there's one thing that I may be allowed to suggest, try to save up! There's never enough money in the world so don't do too much shopping or splurging so much on cellphones and gadgets. Anyway this is the time that you'll learn more about yourself. You will know more about your fashion sense and how crazy your hair looks like without salons and styling iron. However difficult work is, YOU WILL MANAGE. You're not the type who will aim for higher position but I guarantee that your work is exceptional.

Now let's talk about relationships. Unlike what you probably thought, you will get married before you turn 30. Yes you might say you're not attractive and all but hey you have a great personality and that's what matters most. You will meet a couple of guys along the way, cry a bit out of frustrations and heartaches but remember, life has a crazy way of telling us that there's somebody else meant for us. In time you will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Oh by the way, do treasure and love your family. They will stand by you through thick and thin. Kiss mom for me.

Love,
Your 32 year old self
